MAKE YOUR FREE Lease Termination Letter
What is a Lease Termination Letter?
A Lease Termination Letter is a formal notice provided by a landlord to a tenant, informing them that their current lease or rental agreement will not be renewed. Lease Termination Letters are important for landlords to comply with state laws regarding notice requirements, which vary by state but commonly require a 30-day notice period.
The Lease Termination Letter should clearly communicate the termination date and any relevant details about the move-out process, such as the condition in which the rental unit should be left and the return of the security deposit. Additionally, the letter may include a statement notifying the tenants that the landlord may pursue legal action, such as eviction, if they do not vacate the property by the end of the lease.
Providing a Lease Termination Letter helps set the expectations for the tenant to vacate the premises and establishes a timeline for the move-out process. Make sure to provide this notice in a timely manner to ensure compliance with state laws and a smooth transition for all parties involved.
Note: If you are a tenant, use a Tenant’s Notice to Terminate Tenancy instead.
When to use a Landlord's Notice of Non-Renewal:
- You are a landlord and want to end a monthly rental agreement.
- You are a landlord and do not want to extend or renew a lease agreement.
