March 13, 2015 — Here, at Rocket Lawyer, we're always looking for ways to give back to our community. Our volunteer group, Project Rocket Lawyer, organizes opportunities for Rocket Lawyer employees to generate positive change around the Bay Area, one event at a time.
Decked out in Rocket Lawyer red (and grey), dozens of Rocket Lawyer employees arrived at SF Food Bank's primary warehouse, lending a helping hand in their mission to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin. The harsh reality is that thousands of Bay Area residents struggle to have something as simple as food on the table on a daily basis. That's exactly why San Francisco and Marin Food Bank provides more than 100,000 meals a day to families in need, thanks to all the donors, supporters, and volunteers.
When we arrived at the food bank, the enthusiastic staff explained the importance of our time and contribution. Without volunteers, they would need to hire 70 full-time employees (yup, seven-zero!) to do the same amount of work, which would put a significant dent in their budget. But with a constant flow of generous volunteers, they're able to use that same budget to push their mission to feed even more residents in the area.
So naturally, after our quick pep talk, we were pumped and ready to get right to work. Our first assignment: sorting and packing fresh pears. We finished earlier than expected so we moved onto our second assignment: packing, measuring, and sealing frozen vegetables.
In the end of our two-hour frenzy of bagging and boxing, we managed to put away over 12,480 pounds of pears, along with hundreds of pounds of mixed frozen vegetables, providing healthy alternatives for over 12,000 families! Now that's what you call team work! What are your favorite ways to give back to your community?
