Meet Mario Jaramillo, Esq.—He is just one of the many great lawyers in the Rocket Lawyer On Call attorney network. Mario currently runs his own practice in southern California and enjoys working closely with people on their small businesses, personal matters, and real estate issues.
He was chosen to be the first attorney featured in Rocket Lawyer ads because of his deep commitment to the Rocket Lawyer mission. Rocket Lawyer is about getting everybody the quality, affordable legal assistance that they need, and Mario helps us do that.
Here’s what he had to say about being in the legal profession.
What inspired you to be a lawyer?
Mario: Honestly, I was inspired to become a lawyer while working for my father, who was a chiropractor back in the day. I noticed that my father was having difficulty in dealing with lawyers primarily because he didn’t understand the legal system in the U.S. and how it worked (my father was an immigrant). Since my father owned his own business, it was sink or swim, and there was a high chance of sinking if you didn’t know how the legal system worked in the U.S., particularly for small businesses. As a result, and being the oldest of two kids, I assisted my father in this regard. Eventually, and much to my father’s chagrin because I didn’t end up taking over the family business, I became a lawyer.
How do you see people getting legal services in the future?
Mario: I see people using the Internet more and more in obtaining legal services one way or another. I started practicing law when the Internet was barely coming around. Back in the day, it was the Yellow Pages and other forms of print media if you wanted to hire a lawyer. If a consumer wanted legal questions answered, you had to pick up the phone and call a lawyer (assuming you can get one on the phone). Now, people can do their own research online and obtain many of the legal answers they need before having to contact and/or hire a lawyer. In searching for legal services, the consumer in this day and age is that much more ahead of the game than a decade or so ago. In fact, the legal medium and presence online changes regularly. I’m proud to be a part of this ever-changing legal environment online, and the ability that Rocket Lawyer has in facilitating it.
