What is a Construction Bid Form?
A Construction Bid Form is a document that is used to propose a bid on a construction project. Construction Bid Forms are a way to communicate interest on a construction project and provide a contractor’s estimate on costs, timelines, terms and details of the construction project.
Construction Bid Forms are often created after the design phase of a construction project--when it is time to find contractors to build the project. These documents help project owners and interested contractors connect and obtain necessary information about the project. Project owners may create a Bid Form Template and include it in their Invitation to Bid packets as a way to standardize the format of the proposals they receive.
Whether you're the owner of a construction project or a contractor trying to place a bid, creating a Construction Bid Form is a great way to explain all the details of a bid. Not only does it help you protect your legal interests, it helps distinguish the best bid for the project, which means you can start breaking ground as soon as possible.
Note: If you have a project that is not related to construction, use a generic Bid Form.
When to use a Construction Bid Form:
- You are a contractor who would like to bid on a construction project.
- You are a project owner collecting bids from potential contractors and you need a standard form with important project information if a bid is submitted.

What to include in a Construction Bid Form?
You may want to include the following types of information in your Construction Bid Form: the name of the project, where the bid will be returned, a list of all the documents provided to the contractor in connection with the project, a list of all the documents attached to the Construction Bid Form, any estimates made in the Bid (for example, you may include a performance bond, a bid bond, or any other documents the owner requires), and the date the document was created. If there is an Invitation to Bid, the Bid Form can be completed according to the specifications in the invitation.

How to create an effective Bid Form:
In all likelihood, your Construction Bid Form will be competing against the Construction Bid Forms of other companies and contractors. To create the best possible Construction Bid Form and give yourself the highest chance of securing the project, here are a few things you'll want to consider:
- Give a reasonable time estimate: Everyone wants work done quickly and efficiently, but there is such a thing as "too fast." Resist the urge to give unreasonable estimates in your Construction Bid Form. It shows the receiving party that, although you might not have the fastest estimate, you're on the level and being reasonable. That goes a long way.
- Acknowledge the project specifics: If you're a roofer bidding on a contract to reshingle a home, chances are you know far more about those particulars than the person soliciting these bids. Be specific about your knowledge. Note all the details and how you came to your estimates of price and time.
- Particulars of your business: Note whether your business specializes in the process you're bidding for, whether you're more of a generalist, etc.
You may want to consult an attorney with any questions.
-
How is a Bid Form signed?
The Construction Bid Form will be signed by the Contractor who is submitting the bid. You do not need witnesses to the signing nor do you need to have the signatures notarized. You may want to use our e-sign services which enable both parties to sign the agreement electronically without the need for each party to sign a printed out agreement.
