What is an Extra Release?
An Extra Release gives you written permission to use an extra's likeness in your film or video. Even if your extras are volunteers, it's a good idea to get their written permission before you start filming. The Extra Release helps prevent someone you have filmed from holding up production, or the release date, and this is why it is useful to obtain the individual's release prior to or at the time the performance is recorded.
When to use an Extra Release:
- You need to hire extras for a film or video shoot.
- You're searching for volunteer extras.
- You're shooting in a public space and bystanders may be filmed.
- You're a seriously small, indie production working with extras.

Extra Release
This agreement (hereinafter referred to as the "Agreement") is made effective on by and between , , , ( hereinafter referred to as the "Extra") and , , , (hereinafter referred to as the "Production Company").
WITNESSETH:
In consideration of the respective covenants contained herein, the parties hereto, intending to legally bound hereby, agree as follows:
FOR GOOD AND VALUABLE CONSIDERATION, the Extra hereby grants to the Production Company and to its licensees, assignees, and other successors-in-interest, all rights of every kind and character whatsoever in perpetuity in and to my performance, appearance, name and/or voice and the results and proceeds thereof (hereinafter referred to as the "Performance") in connection with the entitled (hereinafter referred to as the "Product"), and hereby authorize Production Company to photograph and record ( on tape, film or otherwise), the Performance; to edit same at its discretion and to include with the performance of others and with sound effects, special effects and music; and to incorporate same into picture or other program or not; to use and license others to use such recordings or photographs in any manner or media whatsoever, including without limitation unrestricted use for purposes of publicity, advertising and sales promotion; and to use my name, likeness, voice, biographic or other information concerning me in connection with Product, commercial tie-ups, merchandising and for any other purpose.
I hereby waive all rights and release and discharge Production Company from, and shall neither sue nor bring any proceeding against any such parties for, any claim, demand or cause of action whether now known or unknown, for defamation, invasion of right to privacy, publicity or personality or any similar matter, or based upon or relating to the use and exploitation of the Product. I agree that Production Company owns all rights and proceeds of my services rendered in connection herewith as a work-made for hire.
I agree that there shall be no obligation to utilize the authorization granted by me hereunder. The terms of this authorization shall commence on the date hereof and be without limitation.
I warrant and represent that I am over the age of 18 years and that I am free to enter into this agreement.
